Book Donations to Local Elementary Schools

Dr. Marc E. Gousse, Superintendent of the Mount Desert Regional School System, accepts copies of “THE FRIGHTENED FROG, An Environmental Tale” from Pamela Bowie, BHGC Youth Activities Chairperson.

The Bar Harbor Garden Club has donated copies of the book "The Frightened Frog, an Environmental Tale" to Pemetic, Connors-Emerson, Tremont, Mount Desert, Trenton, Swans Island, Frenchboro  and both Cranberry Island schools.

The book, written by Brenda Moore and Jean Ohlmann under the auspices of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., mirrors NGC President Sandra H. Robinson's theme "Leap Into Action."  Ms. Robinson, guest of honor at the Garden Club Federation of Maine's Convention held in Bar Harbor in June, gave an impassioned lecture with emphasis on preserving and nurturing bio-indicators, and her desire to give the natural world back to children by encouraging them to learn about and love nature and the outdoors.  It is in this spirit that the BHGC has made their gift.

The Bar Harbor Garden Club is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Maine and National Garden Clubs, Inc.
